Foods to Avoid While Pregnant

According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) pregnant women are 13 times more likely to get Listeriosis than the general population. This bacteria can be harmful to your pregnancy and for that reason the following foods are best to avoid.


  • Unpasteurized milk and foods made with unpasteurized mild (soft cheeses: feta, brie)
  • Hot dogs and lunch meats unless they are heated until steaming hot just before serving
  • Refrigerated pate and meat spreads
  • Refrigerated smoked seafood
  • Raw and undercooked seafood, eggs, and meat


  • Large fish such as shark and albacore tuna,  can also be a problem due to high Mercury content.
